5 players to watch from 2022/23

In PlaymakerTV that you can access on our Youtube Channel you will find content where our senior data analyst, Jesper Haglöf and women’s football writer and analyst, Mia Eriksson speak about the women’s game using data from PlaymakerAI’s platform. This article is showcasing players’ spiders and plots with stats from the 2022/23 season.

PlaymakerAI’s player spiders

From our platform scouting.playmaker.ai you are able to buy player reports in different takes and download them straight away. It will only take you a minute or two to get the report as a PDF-file to your mailbox if you know exactly what player you are looking for. In this article we will mostly take a look at the player spiders that can be bought and downloaded in our smallest and cheapest package.

Kirsty Hanson, Aston Villa

The player I have first chosen to take a closer look at is Kirsty Hanson who has been playing for Aston Villa in the Women’s Super League in England this season. The winger has been in Villa on loan, from Manchester United. She is ranked eight on the top 10 list based on Playmaker’s action value model.

Hanson’s player profil is “The Classic Winger” and that is described according to the following:

This player is usually acting as a right/left midfielder or an offensive winger. The player is very efficient in winning duels and recovering the ball. When it comes to attacking this player is often found out wide, reaching success with crosses.

As you can see on the list, Hanson also show edge qualities from dibbling and playmaking.

We did not show this in the latest episode on PlaymakerTV but I still thought it said what we needed to see about Hanson’s abilities. Comparing Hanson to other players playing the same position, she is a standout by far when it comes to intercepting the ball. This plot is from Hanson’s report which you can find on scouting.playmaker.ai

Talking about her qualities in dribbling the next plot showcase this skill as well from the image below.

Hanson has attempted 8.74 dribbles per 90 minutes played in Women’s Super League this season with 58 % rate in success. In the clip below she is acting from out wide in the last match of the season where Aston Villa played against Arsenal.

Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir - FC Bayern München

Moving on from the scouting platform’s player reports to what we showed in the episode of PlaymakerTV. In the Frauen Bundesliga centre-back Glódis Perla Viggósdóttir had a brilliant season with league winners FC Bayern München. Qualities in progressive passes, switching play and as a leader from the backline made the Iceland international to the 8th place based on the action value. Her spider is impressive in both the build up-phase and the defensive display as seen below.

Viggósdóttir’s player profile among Playmaker’s avatars is - The Physical. This could describe her as a player that is especially good in winning back the ball while  focusing on duels and challenges in the games. The Physical is mostly a player that is playing as center-back primarily.

Emilie Haavi - AS Roma

Serie A’s most valuable player of the year was awarded officially to AS Roma player and Norway international, Emilie Haavi. Playmaker’s action value model ranked her 7th in the list for the Italian league, Serie A.

Her player profile; The Star. This is someone that contributes a lot to the team’s attack. The Star, who usually plays as a winger or as a forward, often top the team’s chart in points, contribute with shot assists and come to a lot of finishes with a high frequency in turning the shots to goals. Looking at Haavi’s spider, it’s clear to see why Roma must be pleased with her this season.

In the World Cup, make sure you watch Haavi when she dribbles.

Caroline Weir - Real Madrid

In Spain and the LIGA F, Playmaker’s data lacks due to the access of matches from the league with video. The top 10 list is therefore only with players from the top 2 teams; FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. But, that Caroline Weir has had a great, first season in the Spanish club, has been clear to everyone who has been able to watch her play. Looking at players from Barcelona and Madrid she is ranked number five and just as Emilie Haavi in Roma, Weir’s player profile is The Star.

The Scotland international’s standout metrics are to be seen in the chance creation bar such as shot assists and dribbles. In the league Weir has scored 19 goals and has made 12 assists across the season. Incredible numbers!

Fiona Maëva Liaigre - FC Girondins de Bordeaux

In this episode Jesper also showed a top 10 of the next generation with young, pormising players from across Europe. In the D1Arkema in France we found Fiona Maëva Liaigre who plays as defender for FC Girondins de Bordeaux. She is 18 years old and was ranked 8th on the list based on Playmaker’s action value model.

Her player profile is similar to Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir’s in FC Bayern München - The Physical. The difference between these two players is that Liaigre is playing as a fullback while Viggósdóttis is a centre back. Fullbacks are more often required to take runs and the French youngster’s edge quality is as a runner.

This young, promising fullback could become a very good allround fullback in the future, with skills in both the offensive parts of the game such as in defense.
